The deep political love that many African Americans have had for President Barack Obama has toned down to a lukewarm appreciation. Those who defended him in even the worst of circumstances have become silent, only to say that perhaps none of what happened in Washington was under his power. The most difficult part of this argument is that the same individuals who won’t hold President Obama accountable for anything that happens under his watch are very quick to say that former president George W. Bush was entirely responsible for much of what happened during his administration.

Although Obama can’t be blamed for all of America’s ills, Financial Times writer Edward Luce still wonders how blacks reconcile their plight with their overwhelming approval of the president.
President Obama didn’t create the financial crisis or racial marginalization of black people in this country, but it is true that these issues haven’t improved under his watch. In fact, many key indicators show that the plight of African-Americans has gotten worse under Obama.
