Diddy Is Once Again The Richest Rapper In The World

Diddy Is Once Again The Richest Rapper In The World

By Ryan Velez

When it comes to hip-hop moguls, three people have been on top for much of the time that rap and business have come hand in hand: Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, and Diddy. Diddy was the holder of the top spot for many years until Dr. Dre’s $3 billion sale of Beats by Dre to Apple granted him the throne. Jay-Z ‘s surge of net worth from streaming service Tidal has made him a contender, but Celebrity Net Worth reports that Diddy has taken the title of richest hip-hop artist once again.

Formerly known under real name Sean Combs and Puff Daddy, Diddy’s worth has expanded from $780 million to $820 million, largely due to his stake in vodka brand Ciroc. Not only does he pull in tens of millions each year that he is paid to promote the brand, but he also has an equity stake in the company. This allows him to expand his net worth every time it hit certain valuation milestones.

Second on the list as of this writing is Jay-Z, with a $810 million net worth. The major source of success for him recently has stemmed from a $200 million investment in Tidal from Sprint, which increased his wealth 30% over the last year. Over the past 2 years, Tidal has grown to over 10 times its original value. Bolstering his net worth is his entertainment company Roc Nation and his champagne brand Armand de Brignac.

Notably, Jay-Z is ahead of Dr.Dre for the first time since 2014, but Dre still holds the record for highest earning in a single year, $620 million that year largely from the Beats sale. However, out of the three on the list, his net worth has actually declined from $830 million to $800 million. The reason this took place is that while some investments he has made, like 14,000-square-foot mansion he bought just days after the Beats deal was finalized, have soared in value. However, others have dropped, resulting in an overall decrease in net worth overall.

However, all three of these men are still hard at work making business moves, so it’s hard to say how long Diddy will remain on top. For example, Jay-Z recently made $200 million signing a touring deal. With only $10 million separating Diddy from Jay-Z and Jay-Z from Dr. Dre, one thing is for certain: these three will likely be trading the title of the richest rapper for quite some time.
