Director John Ridley has a really bad explanation for why he left black women out of his series

Director John Ridley has a storied career and has earned a great deal of respect. But Ridley was the subject of a great deal of controversy recently when he gave a pretty difficult to understand explanation for why he left black women out of his upcoming Showtime series, “Guerilla.”

According to Ridley, it was his mixed-race relationship that led him to choose a mixed race couple as the primary protagonists, despite the fact that black women were at the center of the British movement he is portraying on film. Dr Boyce Watkins and Tiara KJ Williams discuss the matter below.
