Dr Boyce Watkins: The $500,000 Love & Hip-Hop wedding – Just Not Very Smart

In this video, I speak about the recent mega-wedding between Love & Hip-Hop stars Yandy Smith and Mendeecees Harris.  The wedding was celebrated by some, and scorned by others.  I’m not here to do one or the other, but as a Finance professor, I feel that it is my obligation to provide some added perspective on why it might not be smart to replicate what we see on reality TV.  In fact, reality TV really isn’t reality, it’s something else entirely.

The funny thing about our society is that many of the people who appear to be financially well off are actually struggling the most.  But of course, they will never tell you that on Love & Hip-Hop.

Take a look at the video below and give me your thoughts.  Am I off base here?
