Erica Campbell and her mother, Thomasina (Honey) Atkins have partnered with the launching of a My Black is Beautiful program called “Beautiful Reflections,” just in time for Black History Month. My Black is Beautiful has been working alongside dynamic Black women since 2007 to help promote positive change and unique excellence for the female image.
“Last year my husband and I did a partnership with them. It was a great relationship. I’m always willing to be a part when promoting the idea of being better from the inside out. When they called again this year and asked for my mom and I, we were thrilled,” Campbell explained.
Campbell’s mother, who is known by the name Honey, has a trademark theology that “a first impression is definitely a lasting impression and to do the thing right the first time.”
“I have learned it’s important to always take care of yourself and to look like you take care of yourself. Looking beautiful isn’t to prove anything to anybody but it’s important to smell good, look good, keep your hair healthy and walk into a room with confidence.”
So far, Campbell has released a hairline simply called “Erica by ERICA CAMPBELL,” which is united with Vernon Martin & VeMa Couture Hair. Included in the line are elegantly styled wigs and extensions that are affordable for the average woman.
“I have learned it’s important to always take care of yourself and to look like you take care of yourself. Looking beautiful isn’t to prove anything to anybody but it’s important to smell good, look good, keep your hair healthy and walk into a room with confidence,” Campbell explained.
The gospel artist says that her mother and her aunt have always inspired her to take care with her appearance and her attitude. She describes them both as “flawless and beautiful.”
“Faith was passed down; making good choices; being kind to people; being thoughtful; and remembering family legacy. I remember coming home from high school after making a bad choice and [my mom’s] response was ‘We don’t do that.’ It’s why my sisters and brother are in this position now. We are a loving family, not perfect by any means. We learned from our mom,” she shared.
The project has been very natural for Campbell who says that the products that she has been promoting are ones that she uses almost daily anyways.
“They are all products that we truly use. I didn’t have to make up or create an answer,” she said, referring to products from Olay, Pantene, and COVERGIRL.
