Tamara Lewis is a mother of three, which doesn’t sound all that rare or exciting in and of itself. However, one of her daughters, Zandra Azariah Cunningham, got a taste of entrepreneurship at the age of 9, and it hasn’t left her since, with her founding Zandra Beauty, a natural bath and body line designed for young women. However, despite a lack of experience, Lewis and her children have grown the brand to include empowerment workshops, STEAM beauty camps, and spa parties. Black Enterprise recently interviewed Tamara Lewis about the family’s latest venture, designed to help out the Zandra’s of the world and their families.
This latest venture is called Raising a Mogul TV, a platform that Tamara says is designed to “share her lessons learned from raising a teenpreneur and support the journey as moms of young moguls.” Currently, the radio show airs weekly on Tuesday evenings at 8 PM EST. The show is also streamed to Facebook, Periscope, YouTube and recordings are available via podcast. When asked what inspired her to start Raising a Mogul TV, Lewis explained:
“I want to make life a little easier for moms that are where I was five to six years ago. At that time, I was single, climbing the corporate ladder, and struggling to hold it all together. My children were my reason. I had three children who I knew were destined for greatness, however, that greatness needed to be nurtured, positioned, and fine-tuned before it could manifest. I had no idea where to begin.”
It makes sense that this would be a struggle near and dear to her, as when Zandra got started in her business, Tamara had little resources to help her daughter out. “ I knew business but when you’re raising a 9-year-old entrepreneur, it adds a new set of challenges. I felt very alone on the journey,” she said.
“Today, there are programs that will help children launch a business, however, there is nothing specifically designed for the parent managing that child. From my unpreparedness and confusion early on, Raising A Mogul was born.”
Topics covered by Raising A Mogul TV include parenting, business education, mentorship, time management, and self-care and how to raise driven and confident children. Lewis explains that she is bringing together a group of moms raising entrepreneurial children to both support each other and share their stories to the benefit of listeners to the show.
