Mother of Floyd Mayweather’s Children Suing Him For $20M, Says He Lied About Her

By Victor Ochieng

Undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has once again found himself in a legal tussle that could further taint his already-tainted name. His ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris, who is the mother of three of his children, has sued him over claims that the boxer lied in an interview that she was high on drugs when he hit her back in 2010.

The said interview was conducted by Katie Couric two weeks ahead of his bout against Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather told Couric that Harris was high on drugs when the incident took place, an event that resulted in the boxer being slapped with a 90-day jail term in December 2011.

On the issue of having battered the mother of his children, Mayweather stood his ground that he’s innocent.

“Did I kick, stomp and beat someone? No, that didn’t happen,” he told Couric. “Did I restrain a woman that was on drugs? Yes, I did. So if they say that’s domestic violence, then, you know what? I’m guilty. I’m guilty of restraining someone.”

Now, Harris is demanding $20 million in damages over what she terms “humiliating” accusations by her ex. Her lawyer, Dan Friedlandler, said that Mayweather knowingly lied in the interview in order “to avoid bad press” ahead of his May 2 fight.

Harris’ son, Koraun Mayweather, revealed last year that he saw his father beat up his mother and that he proceeded to ask the house guard to call an ambulance and the police.

Shortly before the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, a statement apparently written by Koraun surfaced publicly and went viral. In the statement, the child narrates the incident and says that his father hit his mother.

Harris filed her lawsuit against her ex on Tuesday in Los Angeles. According to the lawsuit, Mayweather didn’t just lie about Harris having been on drugs on that fateful day, but he also lied that he didn’t beat her up.

In the suit, Harris’ lawyer said, “It was not Mayweather’s ‘restraint’ of Harris that caused her serious injuries, rather it was his beating of her.”

The lawsuit is coming at a time when the boxer just made $100 million from winning his fight against Pacquiao. Mayweather is expected to earn more than $50 million on top of the down payment once all the fight earnings have been tallied.
