Phaedra Parks says she wants to leave Apollo when he goes to prison

In Touch Weekly is reporting that Real Housewives of Atlanta Star Phaedra Parks wants to leave husband Apollo Nida.  Nida was convicted of federal bank fraud and identity theft and has been sentenced to 8 years in jail and $1.9 million in restitution.  He originally faced up to 30 years in prison, but his cooperation with federal investigators earned him a reduced sentence.

The restitution he owes will reportedly be paid to JP Morgan Chase, the IRS, the State of Conneticut, the State of Texas, Delta Airlines, and the State of California.  In Touch Weekly states that if the pair had never had children, “…she would have filed for divorce long ago.”  The publication goes on to state that Nida’s sentence, “…is going to push Phaedra to act quickly.”  Parks is said to be devastated about what the sentence means for her young sons.

The case against Nida was built around multiple reports that he had used the stolen identities of more than 50 people to set up bank accounts which he used to launder money and cash checks from Delta Airlines pension funds, fraudulent US income tax returns, and US Treasury checks.  The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that much of the information Nida used to set up the fraudulent bank accounts had been gathered through a fake debt collection agency.

Parks has worked as an entertainment attorney while Nida has worked as a personal trainer.  The couple has two sons Ayden, who is 3-years-old, and Dylan, who is 14 months.  They married in November 2009 not long after Nida finished serving a six year prison stint for car theft.  One has to wonder why Parks chose to marry Nida despite his lengthy criminal history that included multiple DUI offenses, providing a false name to police and three probation revocations all before he was 23-years-old.  One also has to wonder why it took Nida being sentenced to 8 years in prison to consider leaving him after enduring his friendship with Kenya from RHOA, who Parks does not consider a friend and multiple instances of what many RHOA fans consider disrespect from Nida.

Attorney Damario Solomon-Simmons says that the arrest and incarceration of Apollo Nida should be a wakup call to reality TV fans that this is not a game.  He says that people should realize that emulating the behavior that they see in reality television shows can lead to very real prison time.   Speaking on the arrest in a recent interview, the prominent attorney says, “the assaults that you see on reality TV will send you to jail.  As a person who works with young men and women in the legal field, I try to help them understand that you have to conduct yourself in a civilized society and not copy what you see on these reality shows.”

Below, in this episode of Financial Lovemaking, Dr. Boyce Watkins and S. Tia Brown from Ebony Magazine discuss the situation between Apollo Nida and Phaedra Parks. According to Dr. Watkins and Brown, there are lessons that people can learn from what happened to this couple. Part of the moral to the story is that who you choose to marry is one of the most important investments you’ll ever make, and when you make that decision, you must be thoughtful about everything going on in the present, past and future of the person you choose to be with.

Phaedra knew that Apollo had been to prison in the past for fraud before she married him, and now she is working to overcome a mistake that is going to cost her family dearly. The episode is below:
