Rapper Lil Kim’s Foreclosure Saga Far From Over

Rapper Lil Kim’s Foreclosure Saga Far From Over

By Ryan Velez

Earlier this year, rapper Lil Kim seemed like she got the reprieve she was looking for to save her New Jersey mansion after a judge threw out the case for a lack of prosecution. However, according to a recent article from Bossip, she is far from out of the woods when it comes to her home, which she currently shares with her nearly three-year-old daughter Royal Reign.

The return of Lil Kim’s financial troubles started when HSBC Bank requested that the case be reinstated. A lawyer for the bank said that the reason for their delay in prosecution was that they were waiting on paperwork to determine exactly how much the rapper, born Kimberly Jones, truly owes so they can ask for a final judgment. The initial suit occurred in 2010, when HSBC Bank sued Lil Kim after alleging that she made a deal with them in 2002 for a $1.5 million mortgage for her Alpine, NJ home, and promised to make the $9,935 a month payments. They now say that she stopped paying altogether in 2009, and are looking to remove her from the home and sell it via sheriff’s sale.

Since Lil Kim never responded to the suit, a judge put her in default in December of 2015. She has since tried to handle her debt via mediation, but this still hasn’t solved the issue. A hearing later this month will determine whether or not the case will go forward. Neither Jones or the bank have put out a formal statement regarding the status of the case. One thing to note is that this isn’t the only debt woes that Lil Kim is going through, having been hit with a tax lien for $126,805 by the IRS back in 2015.

While many these days may think of some of the controversies and other issues surrounding Lil Kim in recent years when her name comes up, one shouldn’t forget her role and success in the world of rap. Throughout her career, Jones has sold over 15 million albums and 30 million singles worldwide. Her debut album, Hard Core, was certified double Platinum and had three consecutive #1 rap hits: No Time”, “Not Tonight (Ladies Night remix)”, and “Crush on You.” She is also one of only 2 female rappers to have 3 Platinum albums along with Missy Elliott. She also had a bit of a comeback last year, when P.Diddy asked her to perform on his Bad Boy 20th Anniversary tour.
