Using Facebook Groups To Boost Your Career

Using Facebook Groups To Boost Your Career

By Ryan Velez

Don’t let anyone tell you that Facebook is just for pleasure. Any platform that gives you 2 billion monthly users to potentially reach is something that deserves your attention, but like anything else, you need to position yourself to leverage the platform. Facebook groups are a great example, and Black Enterprise has some tips on how to use them.

Not used to using them? Getting started with Facebook groups isn’t hard. Simply log on to your Facebook page, look to the left side of the screen for the word “Explore”  and then click Groups. Once you click groups, you’ll see several recommendations but you can also click “Discover” to view groups by the interest of your friends, local recommendations, and popular topics such as parenting, movies, identity, relationships, and more. Another option is using the search field to look for groups by topic or create your own Facebook group. Don’t get too excited about using this to boost your brand, though, as many have strict rules on using these to sell goods and services outright.

What you can do with a Facebook group is build a community around your product or service. One example comes from Tiffany “The Budgetnista” Aliche, who started Dream Catchers: LIVE RICHER w/The Budgetnista, a highly engaged Facebook group with over 300,000 members. Group members discuss everything from the Budgetnista’s financial empowerment challenges to credit and money management advice. Once you build your community, you and your fellow group members can share info with each other, as well as connect to influencers and other figures in the field.

One example of a Facebook group dedicated to support is the Brand Build + Launch with Arsha Jones, which specifically focuses on business owners. The group currently has 38,364 members and posts weekly themes for each day of the week to keep members motivated.

Of course, don’t neglect the benefits for you. If you build a group around yourself, you’re in the perfect position to become an influencer on your own. The Humans of Online Business Facebook group by Regina Anaejionu is another highly engaged FB community helping people build their online businesses. Anaejionu’s group reaches over 9,781 members. She also provides free teaching and guides.
