Why are so many black women upset about “Sorority Sisters?”

Maria Lloyd, a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, recently stated that the creators of the new VH1 show, “Sorority Sisters” are “Coonin for cash.”

While the language is harsh, it’s hard to deny that the show presents questionable imagery of black women in Greek Letter Organizations. The question, however, is whether or not there is hypocrisy in this “controversy,” given that many of these individuals didn’t have much to say about reality television when other black women were being portrayed in a negative light.
